The government is preparing to ask His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to watch the crowd version of a music video of the royal anthem Sansoen Phra Barami before giving a final say on its public release.

MC Chatrichalerm Yukol, who directed and filmed the video, has finished editing it and yesterday received praise from Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who watched the 10-minute film before his weekly cabinet meeting.

"It's great," Gen Prayut remarked, adding approval from the Crown Prince is also needed.

The video's release date, expected to be screened in movie theatres nationwide, will then be known, MC Chatrichalerm said.

The mass performance of the royal anthem was filmed on Oct 22 at Sanam Luang. A 100-piece orchestra and a 100-member professional choir conducted by composer Somtow Sucharitkul led a large group of black-clad mourners singing this elegant song in remembrance of the late King.

The 300,000 people who participated in the event created an impressive and jubilant feeling, MC Chatrichalerm said.

Producing and editing the video was gruelling, he admitted.

He said the film would be the last work which he and his colleagues could perform for the late King. After this project, the director said he would like to take a rest.
