Police will summons the owner of a car videoed travelling a city road with a long-haired woman sitting outside on top of the boot in Hua Mak area on Friday night.
Video clip from Orrawan Phuakthaisong Facebook page
The viedo clip, “Human being or ghost?’, spread quickly on social media and drew mixed comments.
Orrawan Phuakthaisong, 30, a social beat reporter for Mcot who witnesses the incident, made a statement to Hua Mak police station on Tuesday.
She told Pol Lt Col Nopporn Srisuchart, a deputy chief investigator, she and two other news staff - photographer Porawit Kasakul, 30, and photographer's assistant Songkrit Paisarntham, 45 - were driving on inbound Rama IX Road around 7pm on Friday.
They were surprised to see a woman with long hair, wearing a black and white striped vest and short pants, sitting on top of the boot at the rear of a red Toyota Altis, with a Bangkok licence plate, travelling in front of them at 60kph.
Mr Porawit used his smartphone to take a video of the woman and the car. She had looked at the woman, who looked back at her.
She asked Mr Songkrit, who was driving, to speed up as she wanted a clearer view of the woman, but the Toyota car accelerated away, Ms Orrawan said.
The woman can be seen in the video sitting on the back of the car, in often poor street lighting, and then waving her arm as the following vehicle draws closer.
Pol Lt Col Nopporn said police had identified the Altis by its registration plate, 3kor2748 Bangkok.
The owner would be called in for questioning and charged with driving a vehicle without due care for the safety of another person. The offence carried a maximum penalty of three months in jail and/or a fine of 10,000 baht.
The still un-named woman sitting on the boot would also be summoned for questioning, once identified, and charged with sitting on the outside of a moving vehicle. The offence carries a maximum fine of 500 baht, he said.
