Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong will represent Thailand at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit this weekend in Peru.
ACM Prajin has been assigned by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to lead the Thai delegation at the summit in Lima on Saturday and Sunday, deputy government spokesman Weerachon Sukhondhapatipak said on Wednesday.
Gen Prayut decided to stay home as the country is still in mourning after the passing of King Bhumibol Adulvadej, Lt Gen Weerachon said. The prime minister will reconsider other visits to other countries planned for next year, he added.
Few details of overseas trips for the prime minister next year have been released. But one is a regular meeting of leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Thailand has worked with Peru to promote green business for small- and medium-sized enterprises. The country will promote business facilities for Apec members, according to the Foreign Ministry.
