Rocker Seksan Sukpimai, better known as Sek Loso, has been handed a 15-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and fined 4,000 baht for assaulting his ex-wife's personal assistant in the Ram Intra area in April.
The Criminal Court initially sentenced the 42-year-old rocker to two years and six months and a friend Sahachart “Chart” Poonsri, 43, to two years in jail on the same charge, but halved them because they confessed.
Their jail sentence was suspended because the defendants had no prior criminal records. The court also ordered Sek and Sahachart to perform community service three times a year each.
Sek beat his former wife's personal assistant Chanokchon "Bee" Boonpeng in the Ram Intra area on April 13 after coming across her, his teen daughter and a sister of his businesswoman ex-wife Wiphakorn "Kan" Sukpimai when he was performing a concert in the area.
Sahachart helped in the attack, which left Ms Chanokchon hospitalised with a broken jaw and bloody lips.
Two days after the incident, Sek told the media Ms Chanokchon "had it coming" and he would fight the case in court.
“She has criticised me once too often in the social media ... She is known for defaming people and set up a hate site against me," he said, adding she had also maligned his mother's name, which he could not accept.
Sek said while he had previously laid a defamation complaint against Ms Chanokchon, he decided to take the matter into his own hands when he ran into her.
It was not the same as a man hitting a woman, the rocker insisted, as Ms Chanokchon was a transgender man.
After the trial, Sek said he accepted the penalty and might do community work with young people at a juvenile detention centre. He called on youngsters and his fans to have self-restraint during any provocative event and be cautious when posting comments in the social media.
