His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has appointed three new members of the Privy Council and reappointed seven others.
Following the resignation of the councillors to King Bhumibol Adulyadej, His Majesty the King appointed the new Privy Council under the royal command dated Dec 6.
The command was issued under Section 2 of the 2014 interim constitution, completed with Sections 12, 13 and 16 of the 2007 constitution on the King which were retained and remain in effect.
It was published in the Royal Gazette on Tuesday.
The 10 members of the Privy Council named in the royal command are: Gen Surayud Chulanont, Kasem Watanachai, Palakorn Suwanarat, Atthaniti Disatha-amnarj, Supachai Phungam, Chanchai Likitjitta, ACM Chalit Pookpasuk, Gen Dapong Ratanasuwan, Gen Teerachai Nakwanich and Gen Paiboon Koomchaya.
The royal command was countersigned by Gen Prem Tinsulanonda, president of the Privy Council and the 11th member of the advisory body to the new monarch.
The new members are: Gen Dapong Ratanasuwan, the current Education Minister; Gen Paiboon Koomchaya, currently the Justice Minister; and Gen Teerachai Nakwanich, who retired as army commander-in-chief on Sept 30.
The remaining seven members earlier served the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The previous Privy Council comprised 16 members. Those who did not rejoin the council are: Tanin Kraivixien, Chaovana Nasylvanta, ACM Kamthon Sindhavananda, Gen Pichitr Kullavanijaya, Ampol Senanarong, Rr Adm ML Usani Pramoj, MR Thepkamol Devakula and Adm Chumpol Patchusanont.
Gen Prem Tinsulanonda was re-appointed Privy Council president under a royal command by King Vajiralongkorn on Dec 2 after serving as regent pro tempore following the passing of King Bhumibol on Oct 13.
His role as regent ended with the accession to the throne of King Vajiralongkorn.
