Turkish man falls to death from Bangkok hotel

A Turkish man fell to his death from a fifth-floor hotel balcony in the early hours of Tuesday, just one day after checking in with his wife and their baby.

The body of Kadir Kemal Ozan, 31, wearing boxer shorts, was lying face up on the ground behind the 36-storey hotel on Lang Suan Road in Lumpini area of Pathumwan district when police arrived at the scene, Pol Col Natthapol Lordongbang, deputy investigation chief at Lumpini police station. The incident was reported at 12.50am.

His Turkish wife, carrying her baby, burst into tears while hugging the body of her husband.

Rescue workers sent the body to King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for a post-mortem examination.

Pol Capt Natthapol said the tourist and his family had arrived in Thailand on Dec 11 and booked into the hotel.

He and his family went out on Monday night. He got drunk. They returned to their room around 10pm. He later stood outside on the balcony while his wife took care of their baby.

His wife told police she heard a sound from the balcony. She ran out to see what it was and saw her husband falling to the ground. She shouted for help, but it was too late to save his life.

Police have informed the Turkish embassy and planned to further question the grieving widow.
