Privy councillor Chanchai Likitjitta dies at 70

Chanchai Likitjitta, a privy councillor and former Supreme Court president, died at Chulalongkorn Hospital at 8.30am Wednesday morning at the age of 70, according to media reports.

Born on April 25, 1946, Chanchai finished his secondary education from Wat Songtham School.  He received a bachelor's degree in law from Thammasat University in 1969 and a barrister-at-law degree in 1971.

He first served in the judicial service as an assistant judge and later became a judge at many courts.

Chanchai became the 36th president of the Supreme Court in 2005 before his retirement in 2006.  He was justice minister in the government of Gen Surayud Chulanont (2006-08).

He was first appointed a member of the Privy Council for late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on April 8, 2008 and reappointed by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun on Dec 6, 2016.
