Heavy outbreaks of rain are predicted in the lower provinces for the next few days caused by a strong high pressure ridge from China that continues to cover Thailand and the South China Sea and a strong northeast monsoon which is prevailing across the Gulf of Thailand and the South.

The Meteorological Department said in a forecast released at 5am on Sunday that the provinces to be affected by the rain until Jan 25 are Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

People are warned of severe weather conditions and possible flash floods and to remain cautious in areas prone to landslides. They are also advised to closely follow weather updates.

Strong winds will cause waves in the lower part of the Gulf of Thailand of 2-3 metres. People along the coasline are advised to be aware of inshore surges.

All vessels should proceed with caution and small boats should stay ashore until Jan 25.
