Nine students were badly hurt. Fifteen others sustained minor injuries. All were rushed to a nearby hospital, Thai media reported.
Driver Suwat Natenee, 50, told police his truck was taking 40 students, from kindergarten to high school level, from four villages in Nam Phong to schools in downtown areas. Some students sat on the roof of the vehicle.
The road was slippery due to rain and he lost control of the vehicle, which was travelling at no more than 60km per hour, the driver said. He tried to stop, but the truck ran off the road and overturned, Mr Suwat said.
