Miss Thailand Universe Chalita "Namtan" Suansane was offered the role of special ambassador for ethics when she met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for the first time on Tuesday.

Miss Thailand Universe said after calling on the prime minister at Government House that Gen Prayut offered to make her a special envoy to promote ethics and encourage the public to do good deeds. Doing good things should not end when people make merit at temples. Her role would be to help promote that idea, she added.

Namtan did not say whether she accepted the offer, but could not hide her excitement over her first meeting with the prime minister.

"I was excited because I met the prime minister for the first time. He is humorous. He is funny, and a nice person," she said.

She gave the prime minister a bouquet of roses, a brown teddy bear and a picture of her in Thai traditional costume.

The 21-year-old Maha Sarakham University student raised Thai hopes she would be crowned Miss Universe 2016 when she won the most votes in internet balloting during the pageant in Manila last month. But her race ended at the final six.
