Muay Thai judge beaten, guard shot dead outside stadium

A security guard was killed and a Muay Thai judge clubbed in broad daylight by two men armed with a gun and a wooden baton in front of Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bang Khen district, Bangkok, on Friday.

Anucha Prathumma, 50, was shot fatally in the chest and Udom Deekrachang, 59, sustained head injuries when they were attacked around 1pm  in front of the entrance to the new boxing stadium on Ram Intra Road,  Pol Capt Thongsak Mapaeng, a deputy chief investigator at Bang Khen, said.

The injured judge was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Police investigators learned that Mr Udom arrived at the stadium by pickup truck ahead of a boxing match  he was to judge. After he got out of the pickup, two men on a motorcycle parked in front of the stadium. One of them held a wooden baton. He walked over to Mr Udom and beat him on the head with it.

Mr Udom fled for help.

Mr Anucha, a security guard at the stadium, rushed to intervene, but the other man waiting on the bike fired a shot at him. The two attackers then fled on the motorcycle.

Police were examining security camera footage for clues to the attackers' identities.
