The government plans to launch projects which improve taxi services by next year, including a scheme to equip cabs with location and driver identification features.
Plans for the Taxi OK and Taxi VIP projects were approved by the committee on steering the reform of government administration, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, said Sirichan Ngathong, deputy spokeswoman for the National Council for Peace and Order.
Taxi OK will come with DLT Taxi OK, an online application that links to information about the driver, the taxi's location, the closed-circuit television system and an emergency button for the safety of passengers, she said.
Meanwhile, participants of Taxi VIP will receive premium services with better amenities than normal taxis, Ms Sirichan said. The Transport Ministry will issue regulations by September.
