King urges quick relief after floods

His Majesty the King has advised the prime minister to expedite assistance to victims in flood-affected areas, said Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chatchai Sarikulya.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha followed up on the request by instructing authorities to go all out in assisting people in flooded areas.

Meanwhile, permanent secretary for interior Grisda Boonrach said His Majesty the King has suggested opening a flood relief centre in Sakon Nakhon to ensure a more comprehensive distribution of food, clothes and necessities to flood victims in affected areas.

Sakon Nakhon was hardest hit by the floods -- said to be the worst in two decades --triggered by the tropical storm Sonca.

The King also advised the prime minister and the Third Army chief Vijak Siribunsop to send soldiers to help flood victims in Sukhothai province, said the provincial governor Piti Kaewsalapsee.
