SURIN - A driver was arrested with a blood-alcohol concentration far beyond the legal limit after a police chase through streets in the Surin municipality on Tuesday.
Muang police officers used two patrol vehicles and a motorcycle to chase a pickup truck steered by Thanawat Butrdee, 20, after a hit-and-run accident in Muang district.
Mr Thanawat's vehicle hit another pickup truck, injuring eight construction workers sitting in the bed. He drove off, and police gave chase through the town's streets.
The chase ended when police blocked the road and the driver was dragged out of his vehicle.
Police said his blood-alcohol concentration was found to be 249 milligrammes per deciliter, five times over the 50 mg/dL limit.
He was charged with drink-driving, hit-and-run resulting in damage and injuries, and escaping police, they added.
Drink-drivers are subject to fines of 20,000 to 100,000 baht and/or imprisonment from one to five years.
