50% upbeat over new cabinet

About 50% of Thais think the new cabinet will "likely" improve the performance of the government, says an opinion poll conducted by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, or the Suan Dusit Poll.

The poll, carried out during Nov 28–Dec 2, asked 1,195 Thais to respond to three questions pertaining to the newly appointed cabinet which comprises 10 new ministers and eight relocated ministers who took their posts on Nov 30.

Just over 50% of respondents agreed it would improve things, citing expertise, past experience and the knowledgeability of the newly appointed ministers.

Meanwhile, 42.6% believe the government's performance will "not change", since the problems the government is facing have been accumulating for a long time; while 7.1% said the change will worsen the government's performance. They cited discontinuity, time wasted and budget loss to support their opinion.

Asked for their opinion on the cabinet, 32.1% of respondents said they hope the new cabinet will solve problems, 28.7% said it is too early to judge, while the others thought the change was part of a government plan to gain the public's trust and alleviate the problems currently facing Thai society.
