Fifty-one job seekers on Wednesday sought help from Crime Suppression Division police to hunt down a man they say swindled them out of a combined 5 million baht by promising them well-paid work overseas.

They filed their complaint with Pol Col Maitree Chimcherd, the acting CSD commander, against job broker Chaowalit Noisri. They asked that he be brought to task.

The complainants were accompanied by Pavena Hongsakula, chairwoman of the  Pavena Hongsakula Foundation for Children and Women.

Ms Pavena said Mr Chaowalit had promised them he would find well-paid jobs in South Korea, Australia, Portugal and Holland.  They had been asked to pay 30,000-80,000 baht each in brokerage fees.

After taking their money, Mr Chaowalit failed to provide them work as he had promised, said Ms Pavena.

There were another 100 job seekers also allegedly cheated by the same man, she added.

Somkhid Khampa, 38, from Khon Kaen, said he had looked for jobs online in August and found an advertisement on “Num Mor Khaen’’ Facebook page offering well-paid jobs at fruit orchards in Holland, South Korea and other countries.

He contacted the job broker via this Facebook page, who said he was the owner of a language school.  He found the man credible and paid him 65,000 baht in brokerage fees for a job as a gardener in Australia.

Mr Chaowalit had told him he would be paid 75,000 to 100,000 baht a month. He had been unable to contact him since making the payment.

Of the 51 complaints, 12 were from the North, 12 from the Central Plains, 24 from the Northeast and 3 from the East, police said.
