A driver who parked her pickup truck near a market in front of a house belonging to two elderly ladies at the Seri Villa Housing Estate in the capital in February, thus blocking access to their car, has been found guilty of causing a public disturbance.
Phra Khanong Criminal Court ordered Ratchaneekorn Lertwassana, 37, to spend 15 days in jail for blocking the driveway of Rattanachat Saengyoktrakan, 57, and Maneerat Saengpattarachote, 61.
The sentence was suspended for one year but a 5,000-baht fine was applied with immediate effect.
Furious at not being able to leave their home, the two women grabbed some axes and used them to attack Ms Ratchaneekorn's vehicle.
The court said the two women had honked their horn for half and hour while Ms Ratchaneekorn shopped at the market. Exasperated, they resorted to vigilante justice and smashed up the pickup.
The court said the defendant failed to take other people's right to the unhindered use of public space into consideration.
The case has shed light on the unlicensed operation of certain markets in Bangkok.
Bangkok authorities filed a complaint in May against vendors at the market after they relocated next to the "axe aunts" house.
