SONGKHLA: A male French national was found dead in a guesthouse in Hat Yai district of this southern province on Sunday. The cause of his death is being investigated, police said.
A team of police and doctors from Hat Yai Hospital went to room number 358 of the guesthouse on Nipat Uthis 2 road in the middle of Hat Yai's business area on being informed of the man's death at about 12pm.
The naked body of the French national was lying on the bed. No traces of a physical attack were found on the body.
His passport and other belongings were still in the room, left untouched. The passport identified him as Patrick Andre Marie, 64.
A police investigation revealed that the Frenchman checked into the guesthouse on Jan 8. Guesthouse staff said they last saw him at 11pm on Saturday night.
A housekeeper knocked on the door at about noon on Sunday, but received no answer. She opened the door, which was not locked, and found his body.
The staff said the man was a regular customer of the guesthouse whenever he visited Hat Yai.
His body was sent to Hat Yai Hospital for an autopsy to establish the cause of the death.
