Chinese men brawl on Pattaya street, two arrested

CHON BURI: Two Chinese men were arrested after a street brawl in Pattaya in which two other Chinese nationals were injured in the early hours of Thursday.

About 1.30am police were informed of a ruckus involving two groups of Chinese men on a street behind the Tesco Lotus North Pattaya superstore, Thai media reported.

Police arriving at the scene gave chase to two vehicles being driven away by two of the men involved.

They caught up with the vehicles, a white Mercedes Benz and a black Toyota Alphard van, both having Bangkok licence plates,at traffic lights at an intersection with Pattaya Nuea (North Pattaya) road.

The two drivers were detained. Zhang Hongxing, 28, driver of the van, had bruises on his arms while Cao Lei, 33, was the driver of the Mercedes.

A search found a sharp-pointed knife and a baton inside the van. 

The two men were taken to Pattaya city police station for questioning about the brawl, in which two other  Chinese nationals were injured.

The injured men were being treated at Pattaya Memorial Hospital. One was identified as Huang Wanyou, 19.

Witnesses told police that two groups of Chinese men were involved in a quarrel which became violent.  Members of one group fled on foot, with the other men pursuing them in vehicles. 

Police were investigating.
