PHUKET: A fire in a warehouse storing auto parts and accessories in Muang district overnight caused damage put at millions of baht. No casualties were reported.
The fire at Hongkee Phuket Auto Sound on Wichit Songkhram Road in tambon Talat Nua was reported about 1.40am, the Muang disaster prevention and mitigation office said.
Flames fanned by a strong wind first engulfed the back of the warehouse, where many auto parts, accessories and paints were stored, and then raged through the front and into the shop.
Loud bangs were heard while crews from 10 fire trucks were battling the blaze. It took them almost two hours to bring the flames under control.
There were no reports of injury. The fire caused damage estimated at millions of baht, Thai media reported.
Pol Lt Col Rachan Panwai, investigation chief at Muang police station, led the investigation at the scene.
He said there was no one inside the building when the fire started. The shop had been closed since Jan 3 for the holiday season.
Police suspect the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
