PHICHIT – A police superintendent has been transferred pending a disciplinary investigation after 40 officers from Bueng Na Rang police station filed a petition with the Damrongdhama centre in Pichit accusing him of abuse of authority.
The petition was presented to Phichit governor Surachai Khanarsa and Maj Gen Sawai Pholakarn, commander of the provincial army base in Phetchaboon, Matichon reported on Tuesday.
The police officers complained that Pol Col Rangsan Kanchanarat, superintendent of Bueng Na Rang police station, was cruel and prone to sudden fits of anger.
The superintendent had often pointed his pistol at the head or the chest of subordinates when he was upset with them. He also regularly threw files or documents around when he was not satisfied with their work.
All his subordinates fell humiliated by their boss’s behaviour and so filed their petition to the local Damrongdhama centre, an office operated by the Interior Ministry to assist people seeking justice.
The governor, who heads the centre, investigated their complaint and concluded there were grounds to support the petition. The centre therefore issued a note to the commander of provincial police region 6.
Pol Maj Gen Surasak Yenprem, deputy commander of provincial police region 6, investigated the case and found there was sufficent evidence to transfer Pol Col Rangsan to work at Phichit police station pending further inquiry. A committee was appointed to investigate the case.
It was revealed that Pol Col Rangsan has a history of being suspended from work, having been transferred six times.
