A video of a police officer kicking a man who was handcuffed and appeared drunk has drawn strong criticism from internet users.
The two-minute video, uploaded by Facebook user Da Drum on Thursday, showed several policemen trying to cuff a man in Nakhon Sawan. The scene was witnessed by many onlookers.
According to the poster, the man drove a pickup truck while intoxicated and struck many parked vehicles. The officers initially struggled to detain the driver, who resisted.
They managed to handcuff the man and made him sit on the roadside. One of the policemen then kicked him in the body. The man fell and did not get up, leaving the crowd startled.
The officer quickly told the onlookers: "The guy isn't drunk. He's probably high on ma (horse, or methamphetamine). See? He's still conscious."
The person who took the video looked into the arrested man's vehicle and said the suspect was probably a volunteer guard. (continued below video)
The video has sparked outrage among netizens who criticised the policemen for using excessive force.
Reports said the officer who kicked the pickup truck driver was transferred after the video went viral.
