Prayut to visit Japan to court investment

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will visit Japan in December to encourage further Japanese investment in Thailand and the Dawei deep sea port development in Myanmar.

Werachon Sukondhapatipak, spokesman for the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), said on Monday that Gen Prayut would go to Japan after his visit to South Korea on Dec 12.

In Japan, Gen Prayut would focus on encouraging Japanese operators to invest in Thailand and the Dawei special economic zone in Myanmar.

Investment opportunities in Thailand he would present included high-speed railway projects, in which Japan was already interested, Col Werachon said.

Prior to his visit to Japan, the prime minister will go to Laos on Nov 26 and 27, Vietnam on Nov 27 and 28, Malaysia on Dec 1, and South Korea on Dec 11 and 12 for the Asean-South Korea Commemorative Summit.

On Dec 19 and 20 Gen Prayut will attend the Greater Mekong Subregion Summit being hosted by Thailand in Bangkok.
