A young student passenger was killed and the motorcycle driver injured in an accident involving a six-wheel truck in Muang district of Samut Prakan on Thursday night, police said.
The child, identified later as Anuwat Chomchuen, aged 6-8 years, was killed on outbound Theparak Road in tambon Theparak in Muang district of Samut Prakan about 7pm on Thursday.
The boy, who was wearing a school uniform, sustained a skull fracture and died on the spot, police said.
A man identified later as Theerapong Sachit, 30, the motorcycle driver, was found unconscious on the road near his overturned bike and a six-wheel truck stopped nearby, police called to the scene reported. He was seriously injured and was rushed to a hospital.
The truck driver, Sakon Thapaju, 19, told police he was driving the vehicle along Theparak Road, heading to a nearby expressway, and he was not aware a motorcycle had moved into the right lane.
He found out only when he felt the right rear wheel of his truck strike something. He looked in the rear-view mirror and saw the overturned motorcycle in the middle of the road. He quickly stopped and got out of the vehicle, and found out the rear wheel had crushed the boy’s skull.
Police were investigating.
