The first discovery was made in a deserted grass field on Sanphawut Road in tambon Samrong Nua of Muang district at about 1pm, after a motorcycle-taxi driver alerted police about two arms believed to belong to a woman.

Volunteers from the Por Tek Tung Foundation searched adjacent areas and found five more pieces of human tissue, including legs and ribs. Samrong Nua police investigator Chira Thancheewa believed the parts belonged to a person who had been dead for about five days.

Later in the afternoon, a human head was discovered in a canal in tambon Samrong of Phra Pradaeng district. Pol Maj Chira said the right side of the forehead appeared to have been struck with a hard object and the head had a permanent eyebrow tattoos.

Police are checking if the body parts belonged to a woman identified as Somyos Namassakarn, 42, who was reported missing five days ago by relative Prasert Theedee, 43. Mr Prasert, who came to see the body, earlier told Bang Na police Somyos left home on Sunday morning to settle a breakup with her husband in Soi Bearing and never returned.

The body parts have been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science at the Police General Hospital where they will be checked to see if they are from the same person, Pol Maj Chira said.
