SA KAEO — Cambodian street vendors attacked a group of uniformed men claiming to be intellectual-property police during a check of border-market stalls for counterfeit and pirated goods, police said.
Pol Capt Sathien Wongudomtham, a duty officer at Klong Luek police station, told reporters that a group of Khmer street vendors in Rong Klua market, located along the Thai-Cambodian border, refused to let the purported officials inspect their stalls.
He said police investigators were still checking whether the "men in brown" were, in fact, from the Department of Intellectual Property, as regional IP officials had yet to file a complaint at the police station.
Street vendors may also have questioned the uniformed men's credentials, as sellers started shoving, kicking and punching at the officers. The outnumbered men abruptly called off their operation and retreated.
