One of the three suspects said to be involved in a bloody New Year's Day shootout that left six people dead at the Mor Chit bus terminal has been arrested.

Anothai Kerdsanti, 30, of Saraburi, was caught on Friday evening at a food stall at the Ban Koh market in Min Buri district of Bangkok.

A warrant had been out for his arrest in connection with a gunfight in the early hours of on Jan 1 in which six people were killed and five others injured, Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Sriwara Rangsiphramanakul said.

The fight broke out between a teenage motorcycle gang and a rival gang of men living near the bus terminal on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road at 12.30am on Jan 1. Both sides were armed with guns and knives. More than 30 spent bullets were found at the scene after the mayhem.

Pol Col Suriya Nakkaew, chief of Bang Sue police station, said security camera footage showed three men, including Mr Anothai, firing shots at the rival gang.

Police also have arrest warrants out for Surachai Sroithong, 33, and Worawut Chanthanasukhon 35.

Mr Anothai has been charged with murder, attempted murder and carrying firearms without permission. He denied all charges.

Police said that their initial investigation found that he was still in contact with the two other suspects who remain at large. 

Police said Mr Anothai had gone into hiding in several provinces after the shootout and recently returned to Bangkok to help his wife sell food at the market where he was caught.
