617 suspects, B17m assets seized in 206 drug busts

Authorities arrested more than 600 drug suspects and seized about 139,000 speed pills and assets worth over 17 million baht in 206 raids in two northern provinces from March 13 to 16.

Provincial Police Region 5 commander Thanitsak Theerasawat on Tuesday announced the result of the  week-long anti-drug suppression operation in Chiang Mai.

More than 2,000 local police, anti-narcotics officers, soldiers and border patrol police were involved in the operation that led to the arrest of a total of 617 drug suspects at 206 locations in Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces, said Pol Lt Gen Thanitsak. 

They seized about 139,000 methamphetamine pills and more than 17 million baht worth of assets from those suspects. The seized assets included houses, land, 14 cars and pickup trucks and 83 weapons.

Pol Lt Gen Thanitsak said police were preparing to arrest more drug suspects and seize their assets.
