Police hunt 5 more for court blast

Police are poised to seek arrest warrants for five more people in connection with the March 7 grenade attack at the Criminal Court.

According to a source, the five people include Tharathep Mitarak, the son of prime suspect, Supaporn "Dear" Mitarak.

The other four are Wichian Charoiram and three men known only by their nicknames:  Wit, Prathuang, and Rung.

Police investigators were compiling evidence to submit to the court along with a request for arrest warrants for the five, the source said.

A total of 19 arrest warrants have already been issued in this high-profile case.

Three suspects with warrants out against them are still on the loose.

They are Manoon Chaichana, alias Anek San Fran, and Thanawut Apinanthaworn — both are abroad. The other is Wirasak Towangjorn, alias Yai Pattaya, who police believe is still in the country and being protected by an influential figure.

Mr Thanawut's father, Somchai Apinanthaworn, told police after his own recent arrest that his son, who works part-time at a noodle restaurant in San Francisco, had asked him to help transfer money to two people. Mr Somchai said he does not know these people.

He said his son had been told by the restaurant owner, Mr Manoon, to transfer the money. Mr Somchai said he used his own money to transfer cash totalling 50,000 baht each to the two recipients on Feb 2 and March 8.

He thought the transfer had something to do with a business he ran with his son importing vitamin C from the US for resale in Thailand. Mr Somchai says he did not know the transfers were part of the court plot and does not believe his son is involved.
