PHUKET — A 68-year-old British citizen of Malaysian origin was found dead on Nai Yang beach in Thalang district on Saturday.
The body of the man, whose name was not released, was discovered in the morning by a fisherman about five to seven kilometres from his hotel near the beach, said Pol Lt Col Watcharin Jirattikarnwiwat of the Tha Chat police station.
The body was half-buried in the sand and there were no injury marks. The man was wearing a plaid short-sleeved shirt, cropped pants and sneakers.
His trouser pockets contained a hotel room key and a wallet with a Malaysian ID card and some Thai and Malaysian banknotes. The man had been dead for at least six hours.
Pol Lt Col Watcharin said the man may have left his hotel to take a stroll or jog along the beach on Friday night. He might have passed out or had a heart attack at a spot where no one saw him.
Police would inform embassy officials and reveal the cause of his death after a post-mortem examination, he added.
