MUKDAHAN — A man in Muang Mukdahan district was arrested on Sunday after filming his friend killing a dog and then posting the video clip on his Facebook page.

Police apprehended Wittaya Chaiyan, 29, at his home in Ban Kham Pa Lai village in tambon Kham Pa Lai after an investigation confirmed he was the person posting the brutal killing footage online on May 20. His friend Saner Roobngarm, 49, the alleged dog-killer, who lives in the same village, narrowly escaped arrest after he saw police holding Mr Wittaya and ran away.

In the video clip titled “เชือด” which means “slash”, Mr Saner was filmed striking the dog's head with a wooden club. He then slashed the dog’s throat with a knife.

Mr Wittaya allegedly admitted that he and Mr Saner planned to kill the dog because it was fierce and he filmed the killing with his smartphone.

Mr Wittaya was charged with animal cruelty which carries a maximum penalty of two years in jail and a 40,000 baht fine, or both.

The arrest came after a Thai dog protection group, Watch Dog (Thailand) filed a complaint with Pol Maj Gen Surapol Pinitchob, deputy chief of provincial police region 4.

Police are trying to locate Mr Saner.
