Two killed in 6-vehicle Korat crash

Two people were killed and 13 others injured, three seriously, in a crash involving six vehicles in Sikhiu district of Nakhon Ratchasima on Saturday.

The accident took place at kilometre makers 97-98 on Mitrapharb Road in front of the Sikhiu campus of the National Institute of Development Institution around 11am on Saturday. It began when a black Isuzu pickup truck travelling at high speed was struck in the rear by another pickup.

The driver of the Isuzu lost control and crashed head-on into a black Toyota Fortuner sport utility vehicle travelling in the opposite lane. Three more vehicles were also hit, said Pol Lt Col Theerasak Khongyingruensin, a duty officer at the Sikhiu police station.

The crash killed two people in the Fortuner. Rampai Haritawan, 27, died instantly while driver Chanakarn Songpat, 25, of Khon Kaen, was seriously injured and died shortly afterward, Thai media reported.

The force of the collision also injured 13 other people, three seriously. Chanaporn Bamrungta, the driver of the speeding Isuzu, was among the critically injured people. All were rushed to a nearby hospital.
