Four electricians were seriously injured, with one losing an arm, after five 22-metre-high power poles they were working on to fix transmission lines toppled in Muang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Pol Lt Col Prapas Maroengsit, a duty officer at Pho Klang police station, said while the electricians were adding more transmission cables to the poles along the Mitrapap Highway in Muang district, one pole snapped and collapsed, pulling four adjacent posts down.

The four electricians came down with the poles and were seriously injured. One of had his right arm severed by a broken post.

Jirawat Phothi-ampol, a Provincial Electricity Authority engineer, said he was in charge of the Bangkok electricians as they worked to add more power cables to increase power supplies to rural areas.

The power supply to households in that area had been cut off for repairs. It was expected to resume Sunday evening.

The injured men were rushed to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.
