Missing man found dead on hotel roof, 2 days later

A 25-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the second floor roof of a hotel in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit area in the early hours of Tuesday, two days after he was last seen.

The body of Pison Pon-inhom was found on the roof of the hotel in Soi Sukhumvit 4, Klong Toey district, by an employee about 4am.

Lumpini police and rescue workers sent to scene said the man had died about two days before being discovered, Thai media reported on Tuesday.

Police found 120 baht cash, a condom and a hotel room key in his trouser pockets.

Khanin Saensrirungphet, his friend, told police that he and Pison had attended a party with former schoolmates at a restaurant in Phutthamonthon Sai 1 on Saturday night.

After the meeting, the pair went to drink alcohol at a restaurant on Soi Sukhumvit 4 and they later took two foreign sex workers to the hotel.

Mr Khanin said he left his room on Sunday morning and waited for Pison in the lobby. After waiting a long time he assumed his friend had already returned home. He then left the hotel.

The victim’s mother said her son had been missing for two days. When she asked his close friend Khanin about him, he said her son was last seen at the hotel early on Sunday.

The mother then went to the hotel. Security camera footage from the hotel showed her son checking in  with a foreign woman around 4am on Sunday. The woman later left the room.

Pison was later seen entering a hotel maids' room on the fourth floor on that day, and had apparently not left the room since.

Police were sending his body to Chulalongkorn Hospital for a post mortem examination.
