Victims of the explosion at the Erawan Shrine on Ratchaprasong intersection on Monday night are legally entitled to financial compensation, Pol Col Narat Sawetnant, director-general of the Rights and Liberties Protection Department, said on Tuesday.
Pol Col Narat said four teams of department officials had been assigned to meet the relatives of those who were killed or injured in the Bangkok blast and accept their requests for compensation under the 2001 law on compensation for victims of criminal acts.
Three of the teams were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital, Lumpini police station and Chulalongkorn Hospital. Members of the fourth team were to go separately to other hospitals where the injured were being treated.
Relatives of the fatally injured victims were intially entitled to 100,000 baht each in financial asistance, while the injured survivors up to 30,000 baht each for medical expenses plus an amount of compensation yet to be fixed.
People who sustained minor injuries could file a complaint with Lumpini police along with medical bills in order to get a refund, he said.
