Two tourism associations and the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) are raising 6 million baht from their members to give 300,000 baht compensation for each dead victim of Monday's Erawan shrine blast.
The Thai Hotels Association (THA) and the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) have joined with the TCT to raise the fund in addition to 300,000 baht compensation for each of the dead from the Tourism and Sports Ministry.
The associations and the council intended to offer the same amount of compensation to show their sadness at the tragedy, THA president Surapong Techaruvichit said on Wednesday.
Apart from the compensation, Mr Surapong said, the hoteliers' association was offering free accommodation to the families of victims throughout their stay.
The offering should be available at more than 10 hotels near the hospitals where injured victims were receiving treatment, he said.
The Tourism and Sports Ministry was the contact point to arrange for the free accommodation through the helpline number 1155.
Monday's blast at Ratchaprasong intersection killed 20 people and injured 125 others. Many of the victims were foreign tourists.
