Three women and a two-year-old boy were killed and four others injured when a trailer truck loaded with latex rammed into a taxi on Phetkasem highway in Phetchaburi's Ban Lat district in the rain late on Sunday night, police said.
The accident occurred about 11pm on the Bangkok-bound side of Phetkasem near Ban Don Tako village in tambon Thamrong.
Police inquiries revealed all of the dead and injured were returning home in a taxi from a trip to Cha-am beach in Hua Hin of Prachuap Khiri Khan province when the trailer truck, travelling at high speed, ran into the rear of the taxi.
The collision impact crushed the taxi against a power pole on the roadside.
Rescuers had to cut open the taxi to extract the eight people inside.
Killed were three women and a two-year-old boy, who have not been named. The injured were Kob Klankliang, 32, Koy Klankliang, 35, three-year-old girl Oraphan Thongmak and a baby. They were admitted to Phra Chomklao Hospital in Phetchaburi.
