A Norwegian tourist has complained to police he was bashed and robbed by a motorcycle taxi driver in Pattaya, Chon Buri, on Thursday morning after a night out on the town.
Tore Klungeruik, 50, was later helped by a passerby and reported the assault to Pattaya police.
He said a motorcycle taxi driver had assaulted him and stolen about 12,000 baht cash and an iPhone on Pattaya Klang Sai Sam Road in tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung.
The tourist told police via an interpreter that he went out to drink beer at a bar in South Pattaya on Wednesday night and later visited other venues on Walking Street untill almost dawn. He then hailed a passing motorcycle taxi to take him back to his room, agreeing to pay 200 baht.
Instead the motorcycle driver rode around Pattaya town for a half hour before parking on Pattaya Klang Sai Sam Road, also known as Third Road. The man then hit him in the face with his elbow, knocking him off the back of the bike onto the ground. He then kicked him several times before robbing him of his cash and smartphone.
Mr Klungeruik was seen walking, injured along the road by Sompong Chanduang, 34, who took him to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment and then to the police station to file a complaint, police said.
Police said they would examine surveillance camera footage in the area and launch a hunt for the motorcycle driver.
