Villagers in Lat Bua Luang district of Ayutthaya province are again protesting that a foreign-owned recycling factory in their locality is causing severe pollution, and say their complaints have been ignored for years.
Aree Pandonrtree, 62, the leader of a protest by villagers from tambons Lat Bua Luang and Sam Muang, said the factory was set up in 2010 and buys waste such as plastic and electronic parts from factories for recycling.
He said the factory's furnaces emit foul smells and thick smoke, which was affecting the health of people living nearby.
The villagers have protested against the recycling plant since 2013, but to no avail, he said.
They had petitioned the district office, the city hall, the Industry Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office, but received no response.
The factory was still causing pollution problems as usual, Mr Aree said.
