The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) is investigating a complaint about a Facebook page being used to publicise a pornographic video clip featuring what appears to be a Buddhist monk having sex with a teen novice.
It is alleged the Facebook page is a forum and point of contact for a group of gay men who fantasise about having sex with monks, novices, or men dressed like them.
Pol Lt Col Mingmontri Siriphong, a senior CSD investigator, said he received the complaint on Tuesday from Songkran Atchariyasap, who heads a network that investigates acts which it claims harm the nation, religion and the royal institution.
He said the CSD was trying to find out who the controversial Facebook page is registered to and who else posted messages on the page.
Pol Lt Col Mingmontri said he had already questioned Mr Songkran about the information he provided regarding the alleged misconduct.
Mr Songkran said he had provided the CSD with a copy of the two-minute long clip featuring the offending sex scene, along with the results of his own investigation into the Facebook page.
He claimed the man who looked like the monk in the video clip lives in the North, while the novice lives in Taling Chan district of Bangkok.
The Facebook page was being used as a contact site for men who want to have sex with men in the monkhood or men who liked to dress up as monks, said Mr Songkran.
There are about 800 Facebook users who have joined a group which caters to this type of sexual fantasy, he said.
If nothing is done to stop these people, their acts could cause serious damage to the reputation of the monkhood, Mr Songkran said.
