Privy Council president Gen Prem Tinsulanonda has advised the army to spend its budget well, because it is not rich.
In a speech at an academic forum honouring Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at Phra Mongkut Hospital yesterday, Gen Prem also stressed that mature adults must possess moral integrity as a safeguard against corrupt practices and any temptation to take advantage of others.
He said adults have an important duty to account for the upbringing of children who are the future of the nation. The Privy Council president and former army chief added everyone must come together to "squeeze out" as many bad people as they can so the country can accommodate more good people.
If most people truly understand their obligation to repay the country, society will be in order, he said, adding the best way to repay the country is to stay loyal to the nation, religion and the monarchy as well as to be honest.
Turning to the army, he said the force is not wealthy so must strive to deliver optimum benefits from the budget it is given. Gen Prem said the work ethic he upholds is flexibility, simplicity and frugality.
