PHAYAO -- A Thai paramotor flyer missing since he strayed across the border into Laos on Saturday is safe in Xayaboury province and expected to be sent back home in a day or two, Phusang district chief Waradisorn Onnuch said on Monday.
Taweesak Unahapattana, 44, was in a team of five paramotor enthusiasts who flew from Mae Sai to Wiang Kaen district of Chiang Rai province to attend a fruit festival there on Saturday. His motorised paraglider strayed across the border into Laos and landed in Muang Khob district of Xayaboury province.
Muang Khob is across the border opposite Phayao's Phusang district.
Mr Waradisorn said he assigned Apichai Muangmoon, a senior assistant district chief, to contact the chief of Muang Khob on Sunday.
The Muang Khob district chief had confirmed that Mr Taweesak sustained minor injuries but was safe and being taken care of by the Lao authorities.
Since Mr Taweesak's entry into Laos was illegal, he had been sent to Xayaboury for questioning by security officials, Mr Waradisorn said.
It was believed Mr Taweesak would be returned to Thailand in one or two days through Phu Du in Uttaradit province, the border crossing nearest Xayaboury town, he said.
