King wishes happiness for his people

His Majesty the King has called on all Thais to adopt mindfulness amid the uncertainties of life.

In his New Year 2016 television message broadcast at 8pm last night, the King reminded people that their lives are exposed to happiness and sadness as well as fulfillment and disappointments.

While people tend to desire only the good things in life, the King said they should be aware this could be temporary. To cope with this, His Majesty advised his subjects to be prepared and mindful as this will help them overcome undesired situations and attain their goals.

With the New Year festivities evoking feelings of joy, the King marked the occasion by wishing his people happiness throughout 2016.

The 88-year-old King also issued a New Year card featuring a portrait of himself wearing a white jacket emblazoned with an image of his late pet dog Khun Thong Daeng.

The card bears the King's best wishes for his people reading: "May you have physical and mental strength and mindfulness" as well as "happiness and prosperity. Happy New Year."

At the edges of the card happiness is symbolised with rows of smiley faces while a monkey picture signifies the Year of the Monkey.
