ANG THONG -- Two women were killed and many other workers injured when a pickup truck and a car collided head-on in Wiset Chai Chan district early on Wednesday, police said.
Pol Lt Ratfhakij Khaokaen, the duty officer at Wiset Chai Chan police station, said the accident happened about 5.30am on the Pho Phraya-Than Rua road in tambon Yilon of Wiset Chai Chan district.
The pickup, driven by Kittisak Nookham, 41, was taking 21 workers from Suphan Buri to a vegetable farm in Pathum Thani when a Honda car travelling in the opposite direction swerved across the centre line and hit the pickup.
The pickup truck skidded off the road and hit a tree. Of the 21 workers, one died on the spot and another died at Ang Thong Hospital while 18 others were injured, most of them seriously. The two women who died were identified as Somsri Chumsaeng, 48, and Suwanna Chanruang, 50, both of Suphan Buri's Si Prachan district.
The pickup driver and one of the workers escaped uninjured.
Sompong Sakunla, the driver of the car, who is the owner of a hotel in Ang Thong, was also injured.
