Man's body found floating in Bangkok canal

The body of a man was found floating in Khlong Lat Phrao by a scrap dealer in Bangkok's Wang Thong Lang district on Wednesday morning, police said.

Phan Juithongkham, 44, said he was paddling a boat along the canal looking for recyclable rubbish. Near Pracha-uthit community on Pracha-uthit road he noticed first the head and then the whole body of a man floating in the water. He quickly informed Wang Thong Lang police.

Pol Lt Pitsanu Thatyan, the duty officer, said the dead man was identified as Pongpan Tree-amornlert, 55. He was wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt.  No injuries were found on his body.

His ID card and 60 baht cash were in his pockets.

Residents told police the man lived in the area and was often seen drinking liquor.

The body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute of the Police Hospital for postmortem examination.
