The Royal Thai Police Office so far has transferred more than 100 officers for alleged links to influential crime figures in provinces where they were stationed.

National police chief Chakthip Chaijinda said on Wednesday the transfers would ease worries among residents and business owners. Those who were transferred would have their conduct closely monitored by a committee.

If the panel concludes they were not involved in illicit behaviour, the transferred officers would get a chance to return to their posts, said Pol Gen Chakthip, according to Post Today.

He insisted the transfers would not affect manpower levels at affected police stations.

Earlier, two senior officers in Hat Yai were transferred following Pol Gen Chakthip's threat to immediately sideline any cop thought to be involved in any illegal activities or suspected of being an "dark influence".

Pol Gen Chakthip admitted that about 200 police, including several generals, were included on a criminal-figure blacklist. They are among 6,000 people nationwide targeted by the National Council for Peace and Order in its crackdown on local mafioso's.

Those on the list are suspected of involvement in 16 types of illegal activity targeted by the government, including drug trafficking, loan-sharking, arms trading, gambling, human trafficking, extortion and prostitution.
