BUNG KAN — Five people, including one woman, were killed in a head-on crash involving two pickup trucks in Seka district on Tuesday morning.
The crash took place at kilometre makers 37-38 on Ban Chaiyaporn-Ban Non Champathong Road at Non Yang Kham village, said Pol Lt Col Pongdet Khamkong, an investigation inspector at Sok Kam police station in Seka district, who was reported around 5.30am on Tuesday.
According to a police investigation, a couple, identified later as driver Oud Ousunthorn, 48, and his wife Naree Khunpitak, 52, were travelling in a pickup truck on their way to a local market in Seka district when their vehicle crashed head-on into another pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction, Thai media reported on Tuesday.
The impact of the crash killed the couple and three other men on the other vehicle instantly.
One of the three men, Komet Sonphor, 30, sitting in the back, was thrown out of the vehicle. The other two men — driver Sap Palee, 47 and Songsak Sonphor, 65 — were trapped in the wreckage of their pickup truck. They had left Bangkok to visit their relatives at a nearby village in Seka when the fatal crash took place just 10 kilometres away from their relatives’ house.
Police were investigating.
