Chachoengsao: A man is recovering in hospital after a three-metre python emerged from a toilet bowl and bit his testicles and penis while he was answering the call of nature on Wednesday morning.
Atthaporn Boonmakchuay, 38, was bitten at his home in tambon Bang Wua of Bang Pakong district as he was preparing to go to work.
Mr Atthaporn, now recovering in Chularat Hospital in the district, said he was doing his morning ablutions on the squat toilet when he felt a sharp pain in his testicles. To his horror, he found a python lurking in the toilet bowl. The snake had sunk its fangs in his testicles and penis and was pulling him down. He yelled out to his wife and neighbours, who rushed to help him.
"I felt as though my penis had been severed. The snake was yanking very hard," he said, recounting the three minutes he spent wrestling with the python.
He grabbed the snake by its neck to prevent further injury. Shortly after that, the snake began to loosen its hold and his neighbours arrived to help take it away. Mr Atthaporn lost a lot of blood and was taken to hospital. Emergency workers cut away the toilet bowl and caught the python, which they later released back into the wild.
Chularat Hospital director Chutima Pincharoen said yesterday Mr Atthaporn sustained lacerations on his penis. There is no sign of infection as the doctors continue to dress his wounds. He would be discharged in a few days.
Speaking from his hospital bed yesterday, Mr Atthaporn said he was in good spirits.
He planned to replace his squat toilet with one with a flush.
