YALA - Six teenagers accused of gang-raping a young woman have been arrested in Muang district and police are tracking down five more youngsters for allegedly colluding in the strong-arm abduction of the victim.
Pol Maj Gen Ittipon Atchariyapradit, chief of Yala police, on Friday ordered police to handle the case carefully as all suspects were teenagers.
Footage from closed-circuit television cameras showed there were 11 young people involved. Six of them had been arrested, said Pol Maj Gen Ittipon.
Police had interrogated the six youths, but had not yet pressed charges against them. They were looking for the other five, Thai media reported.
The arrests came after the 25-year-old woman, a shop employee in Yala municipal area, filed a complaint with Muang police that she had been abducted and then raped by six youths.
The woman said she had been dragged off by a gang of teenagers in front of her boyfriend at a petrol station in Muang district on Thursday night. She was then taken to a water retention area in tambon Pron of Muang district where she had suffered multiple rape.
