    @ Discussion 15 (barryw):

In most European countries you cannot not buy alcohol on pavements or in parks.

Depending on the country, regular shops have to close between 6 and 9 pm and they usually close on Sundays too.

Alcohol is harmful in big quantities, but beneficial at moderate consumption.

Moreover prohibition only has adverse effects.

Not all muslim countries ban alcohol.

    Facts:

Egypt, Tunisia, etc. produce wines and serve them in restaurants.

Indonesians produce and drink lots of arak.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of “modern” Turkey, died from alcohol abuse.

As usual, this new regulation is like a paper tiger; “changing the soup but using the same old medicine”. Perhaps it’s designed to placate the powerful liquor lobbies in parliament. To be effective, go right to the source of the problem; make it less lucrative for the producers and the cost of drinking more prohibitive to the drinkers. Lower further the alcoholic content and dramatically raise taxes on all class of liquors. Conduct year round educational programs in all schools to inculcate our children on the danger of excessive drinking (alcohols) and the impact it has on our health in the long run.

Before starting a new series of silly useless laws, would't they better assess what results the previous laws have reached, like for instance the stupid law prohibiting buying alcohol outside the regulated hours. A remnant from the bully Thaksin era... only meant to harass people and preferably farangs!

The licencing hours for the sale of alcohol are ridiculous especially for supermarkets, although I agree with the proposed ban of selling it in the street. However and I have said this before where is the point in making more laws is ridiculous when you cannot enforce the ones you have already got.

pretty obvious we are entering the silly season

One comment only JUST ENFORCE THE LAWS THAT ARE ON THE STATUTE ...but thats obviously far too difficult for the BIB or MPs to even contemplate

BP. At least you are showing a sense of humour using the pun 'mulled' in the heading.
Regardless, there may be resistance here from the ministry of public bars.
